How to Whip Together an Easy, After School Surprise Galentine’s Mother-Daughter Party
Every year, mom’s and kids carve out a couple hours to write out their Valentine’s cards for their class. Why it takes this long to write out 20 cards is beyond me! But it always does somehow! Also, they needed to decorate a box to collect their Valentine’s from classmates.
So, I decided it would be much more fun to celebrate early with my girls than wait until the 14th. So the after school surprise Galentine’s girl time party idea was born. This will definitely be a recurring date for years to come! So simple and easy to improvise. Here’s how I did it…
Pick Up a Few Supplies
Over the years I have gathered a few Valentine’s decorations, so I set them up on our kitchen island. I actually used some old, cheap pom pons that I cut off the handles to sprinkle down the center of the island for an extra girly touch. And was resourceful and used a few heart shaped cookie cutters as decoration.
Next, I picked up a couple items from the grocery store:
- Flowers
- Pre-made sweet treats
- Stickers
- Valentine’s cards
- Boxes (repurposed 6 cupcake holder brown boxes)
- Mugs
- Milk
- Whipped cream
- Flavored syrup
- Melting chocolate, caramel, marshmallow hearts from Trader Joe’s
- Heart shaped pasta from Home Goods
These are just a few ideas and you can improvise with whatever you may have hanging around the house. Now, let’s see how quickly you can whip this party together!
Quick Party Setup
Undeniably, I am known to go a little over the top on creating fun memories with the kids. But for this particular day, I knew it would only take about 20 minutes of setup. Little time, big smiles!
Add the flowers into a vase or drop a vase into a Valentine’s theme basket.
Buy pre-baked cupcakes and cookies, heart shaped jelly beans or anything available at the store.
Instead of waiting until Valentine’s Day, I decided to give them their little gift early. Now they could use their mugs for the next week instead of only for one day.
My coffee maker has a frother attachment or you can pick a cheap one up for a few dollars. One of my daughters doesn’t care for hot cocoa so we discovered Starbucks will make milk steamers for kids. Warm milk with a squirt of their choice of syrup and whipped cream. My girls are obsessed, so I bought syrup for home and they make them for each other all the time.
Trader Joe’s melting chocolate hearts are YUM! Cocoa bombs, marshmallows or sprinkles will do the trick, too.

For a quick after school snack, buttered heart shaped pasta was the perfect touch. My girls are suckers for cute details. Clearly they take after their mom!
After that, I threw some of the girls’ favorite music playlist on as a finishing touch! And there we have it, a perfect after school surprise Galentine’s girl time party!
Why I Live For Sweet Moments Like These
My daughters will only be at this magical age for a short time. For about a total of an hour’s worth of shopping and setup this “chore” of writing out Valentine’s cards just turned into a wonderful mother-daughter memory. Check out my About Me page to learn why I’m all about making sweet memories!
