Date Ideas for Married Couples to Mix it Up

C’mon You Can Do Better Than Dinner & Drinks!

Let’s talk about some date ideas for married couples. I don’t know about you, but my most memorable dates with my husband are NOT dinner and drinks.

No one ever says, “Remember the 14th time we went to our favorite restaurant and ordered our favorite things? Yeah, that was such a great time!!!”

~Memory in the Making

DON’T GET ME WRONG. Of course, those kinds of dates are an enjoyable break, during the chaos of a stressful week. I’ll take the ability to enjoy a little time away from the kiddies for adult an conversation, any day! When I’m exhausted, and we don’t have the energy to be creative, JUST GO!

But then, we get greedy. That quick dinner out was soooo needed. So we think, we should do a weekly date night! I want to. You want to. It’s settled then!

Then, your weekly date night fails miserably Week 3.

Why Weekly Date Nights Don’t Work for Parents

If you’ve mastered the art of being truly consistent with a weekly date night, PLEASE comment below and tell us all your secret. I haven’t come across another married couple with children that is capable of this sort of consistency, even with the greatest of intentions.

Why don’t they work?

If we really think about it, there are so many outside factors that must align perfectly for a weekly date night routine to work. Such as:

  • babysitter is available,
  • kids extra-curricular activities schedule,
  • school homework project due,
  • stuck late at work,
  • you or your husband aren’t feeling well,
  • a kid is sick, and
  • …this list goes on and on.

So, our weekly date nights aren’t realistic. What now?

Let’s Mix it Up!

Alternative Date Ideas for Married Couples

I find my most memorable dates with my husband are the unique experiences. Something we did for the first time together.

For example, a few years back when we were trying to be healthy (dinner and drinks didn’t align with that), so he came up with the idea to try a class at a different yoga studio each date. Have you ever noticed how yoga studios have like their own personalities? It was hilarious seeing him react at one of his first yoga classes to a hippie, stoner chick with incense and a gong!

So, I’ve compiled a few lists of date ideas for married couples. I hope it will provide some inspiration for you and your husband to mix it up and make a lasting memory!

Gift Your Husband Experiences vs. Things

Before I jump into all the date ideas for married couples, I’d like to talk about low hanging fruit. Whether it’s his birthday, your anniversary, a big milestone celebration for him, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, a major life event, Christmas or just because he needs a pick-me-up, you’re probably wondering what present to give.

Naturally, our instincts typically thing of things first before experiences. Experiences generally take more time, effort and energy to plan; I get it. But, before you start looking at tons of ideas, first think about cool experiences you were already planning or considering anyway! Let me give a couple of examples:

  • Could you use a night out of the house? If so, that new comedy club in town you heard about has tickets. “Merry Christmas! Nana is babysitting and we are going to dinner and to see Bobby the comedian on February 11th!”
  • Been thinking you need more romance in your life? Don’t just talk about it; be about it! Plan something romantic that both you and your husband will enjoy!

There’s a reason you’re reading this post. So, don’t piss him off and spend more money on another sweater under the Christmas tree. I can guarantee he’d rather get a thoughtful gift and make a memory with you! Check out my post, Experience Gift Ideas for Families for more ideas for not only your husband but your kids and extended family members, too!

Now, lets move on to a ton of different date ideas for married couples to mix it up that I’ve prepared for you! I’m super excited for you!
